Buttery heart-shaped thumbprint cookies filled with vibrant red jam, perfect for celebrating Valentine’s Day with a homemade touch.

Ingredients

2½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

2 large egg yolks

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

¼ teaspoon almond extract (optional)

½ teaspoon salt

â…“ cup strawberry, raspberry, or cherry jam

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

1. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then mix in egg yolks, vanilla, and almond extract.

2. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing just until a soft dough forms.

3. Shape dough into a disc, wrap, and chill for 30 minutes.

4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment.

5. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and shape each into a heart.

6. Press a deep indentation into the center of each cookie.

7. Fill each indentation with jam.

8. Bake until edges are lightly golden, then cool before serving.

Notes

For a less sweet cookie, reduce sugar to ½ cup and use low-sugar jam.

Chilling the dough prevents spreading and keeps the heart shape defined.

These cookies take less prep time than rolled Valentine’s cookies, making them ideal for last-minute baking.
